How to View Home Security Camera through Internet

Using home security cameras in security systems has become fairly easy now. There are a variety of wired and wireless cameras that can meet different requirements. The cost of these equipments is also diminishing over a period of time without any adverse effect on the quality.

More and more people are investing in cameras as it is now possible to monitor the videos generated through a camera at home through the internet. This eliminates the need of spending a lot of money on expensive monitoring services by security agencies. All you need is a computer with a good internet connection and a network compatible camera with few network cables to do the job.

Procedure for Accessing Videos of Home Security Camera

Install the camera as per the instructions given in the instructions manual and connect it to the network. You can buy the right camera by asking questions to the sales representatives. Ensure that the camera selected by you is network friendly and directly gives an option of viewing the videos through a web page. Make sure that you connect the camera to a static IP address that can be used later. An example of an IP address would be 74.122.227.50

Next you should set your router in a way that it allows signals from the security camera and forwards it to the Internet Protocol address chosen by you (mentioned in the first step). Use the administrative page of the router, through internet browser, to enable forwarding of the data to the IP address. In case you face any problems, consult the instructions manual of your router or access the web site of the manufacturer of the router for technical support.

Make sure that your local network connection for the router assigns a permanent address that does not change with every connection. You need to have a static IP address to do the job. In case your network provider gives you a connection with such options, your job is done.

In the other scenario, where the IP address changes frequently (dynamic IP address assignment), then you can find the IP address of your system. While being connected to LAN (Local Area Network), you can use your computer browser to find the IP address. In case you are not able to locate it, a simple search on internet will help in finding the right method.

You can now use the camera from any internet browser in the world. All you need to do is to enter the IP address of your LAN connection. The protocol will look similar to opening any website. Instead of the website’s name, you need to enter the LAN address (like http://…LAN address… ).

The next step is to make sure that you enter the port number used by the camera, if it is other than 80. In this case, enter port number with the LAN address itself (like http:// …LAN address:Port number…) . If you had set any id and passwords during installation, you will be prompted for the same and access will be provided after the right match.
