Inner Workings of Night Security Cameras

Night security cameras are the next big step in complete security against theft, and robberies occurring at night. During the day time, we have our CCTV cameras monitoring every move of the shoppers, providing protection against shop lifters. But at night, the situation is different, as you need special night vision cameras to keep surveillance against burglars. Burglaries take place in pitch darkness, and special night vision cameras are the best option available.

Biology of Night Security Cameras

First lets know how exactly the cameras work, so that it is easier to make a decision regarding installing a night vision camera.  Firstly, it has all the makings of any normal camera, all the functions and operation are the same as any CCTV camera.  What makes the camera different is the lens and imaging.

There are two types of night vision cameras that are being used in the market.  Image Enhancement Camera and Thermal Imaging Camera, which is also known as Thermo graphic Camera

Image Enhancement Camera

As the name suggests, image enhancement is its main function. This camera is close to a normal camera. What this camera does is that it captures even miniscule amount of light that is reflected from the object in front of the camera and uses it to enhance the image.  This camera is ideal if the area to be under observation has some amount of light present it. It will not work in total pitch darkness.

Image enhancing cameras are reasonably priced and are small in size too is small.  Installation is easy and image they give out is good, and the facial identification is easy, but the image can be grainy because of the quality of light.

Thermal Imaging Camera

As the name suggests here, thermal images are provided by the camera of the objects that are present in front of them.  This is as high-tech as it can get, as the image that is captured by the camera is beyond the human spectrum vision. To put it simply, the camera sees the heat of the object and projects image accordingly, warm-blooded creatures, or warm thing show up, mostly in reddish-orange color and the colder objects appear in blue color.

One is not to expect normal picture like picture from this camera.  Thermal imaging cameras are used in absolute pitch darkness, and are the best option to guard areas of total darkness like money vaults, air vents, sewer systems etc. Basically, any place from where burglars can enter unseen because of darkness.

These cameras are on the expensive side, but are fool-proof when it comes to capturing video in total darkness. The cameras can be installed in any place and since they are small in size, they are near impossible to detect.

Both the cameras are available in wireless technology, and the footage is recorded for playback and review.

Night security cameras are a must, as burglaries and vandalism are on the rise.  Installing them is not as expensive as the latest security technology and more demand has made them reasonable to buy.
