Shoplifting? CCTV Systems to the Rescue!

The biggest problem shopping malls and stores are facing is shoplifting. Merchandise adding up to of millions is shoplifted out of stores on a daily basis. Stores have tried many ways but the shoplifters seem to find a way. But now with CCTV systems, the days of shoplifting have become far and few.

CCTV System Advancement

CCTV camera systems have come forward in leaps and bounds in technology in the last few years.  Not only do they give very high quality video recording you can even follow, and survey any person of your choice. The technology is now completely wireless which saves a lot of money on wiring. The cameras give picture that is of high quality and the recording takes place digitally, which means that there is no need to make tapes.

How do they help?

Shoplifting has become a nuisance nowadays, research has found that many shoplifters do not do it out need, but they do it out of want. Most shoplifters that are caught belong to decent well-to-do families.  It is mostly teenagers are involved in theft.

CCTV cameras have become much smaller in size. This development in nanotechnology allows the owners to place the cameras in places where they are hard to find, and the culprit is nabbed red-handed.  Catching the person in the act is very detrimental as now not only you have proof, but you can also share data with police and other stores benefitting all.

Regarding shoplifters, CCTV cameras can be maneuvered to any position by controls.  The security personnel  operating the system can zoom in or zoom out, switch feed from other cameras, and change views as per to his liking.  This makes any suspect person easier to follow and record.

How many times one must have heard the phrase that it was an inside job. The workplace also needs protection from employees with sticky fingers. Good CCTV cameras, placed in the right places will prove to be the perfect foil against any such ill-intentions. Most of the goods that are stolen by the employees are taken from the storage. These places too need to be under constant surveillance from thefts. It will also help employees perform better knowing that they are being watched and recorded.

CCTV’s record the footage on to a digital hard-drive, they are more cost-effective and easier to maintain than tapes.  The modern systems record the footage in high-definition, so even if the footage has to be zoomed in on, the loss in quality of footage is much less. All the recording is done digitally, and gives many options like picture in picture and other unique features.

The footage is also legally admissible in the court of law. CCTV videos have in the past helped identify many criminals. Criminals that are caught are mostly repeat offenders so catching them is important as it will prevent many other thefts. They help in crime prevention and ever since their use shoplifting has been on the decline steadily. Even small stores have small CCTV systems that help in as these stores too are big targets.
