So what can this puppy do? According to the manufacturer, it can do quite a lot. But we are wise enough to know that the claims of the alarm company can be rather far fetched at times. Luckily for you good people, that’s where we come in!

The good fellows at Chamberlain report that this security device has a range of over 1000 feet. From our experience using this model it was nowhere near that. The best we could do was around the 170 feet to 200 feet range, and even then it was struggling. It has to be said that there are many home security systems out there with a better range than this.

If you are a sane individual you will be on this site to gain insight into the many usefull wireless burglar alarms that are on offer, the last thing you want is an alarm that refuses to work at long distances as it can be the difference between catching a thief and not.

To give you more insight into the testing procedure for this home alarm system for our Chamberlain RWA-300R alarm review we attached a couple of the sensors at a driveway to our office. The driveway is around the above distance of 200ish feet away from the main building. Sadly the reliability of the device was poor in this condition. It must be said however that there are a few trees that could potentially have interrupted the signal but that is being really nice to these guys as we haven’t had an issue with the obstacles outside in the past.

We do think it had something to do with the receiver and not the sensors however as we hooked them up to another more established home alarm system receiver and the signal was top notch!

In essence it is what we have came to except from Chamberlain, their wireless home security systems in the past haven’t really been up to much to be honest and this one in our opinion is no different.

Another downside we feel is the price tag for it. For the numbers you have to hand over you would expect to see some sort of home security camera bundled in with it, unfortunately not. They do offer a lower price version but from what we hear they are no good (go figure!) so best to avoid those at all costs too.

House alarms are, we feel, an easy nut to crack. Simply get the communication between the two devices worked out and install an insanely loud siren for them. It’s that simple.

A lot of companies are completely bypassing this essential couple of features, instead focusing on things that should be supplementary to the core functions of the alarm.

Not only did we have a terrible time with the overall workability of the alarm monitoring, we found that you can’t actually turn the installed light when the remote sensor finds any movement. This would have been a good option to have.

Instead you will have to get your screwdriver out and get your hands dirty as the only way to change it is by physically changing a few things on the system, not ideal by any stretch of the imagination.

Another rather huge negative for this product is the fact that it has a pretty difficult time in actually detecting any movement that comes directly towards it. Yes it picked up many objects which were running from left to right or vice versa but objects actually heading in its direction we found never really (or rarely got picked up by the motion sensors!

To round up we have to give this home surveillance alarm a big thumbs down, it simply is punching above its weight and there are too many wireless burglar alarm systems out there that are way better. We give it a 3 out of 10!

Edit: As it turns out, our IT man Scott had actually purchased one of these before we posted our alarm review. His opinion of the product is rather different to ours and in the name of freedom of speech, we asked him if he would like to tell us more of his thoughts, please continue to read below to hear his views.

Well it’s been over 3 years i’ve had this system securely installed at my house. I must admit when I heard the Cool Home Security review I nearly fell off my chair, I felt that it did not (in my opinion) represent the alarm in a very good light.

Normally I wouldn’t have minded a negative review; everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But this device has kept me and my family secure for some time now so I thought I would fight in its corner.

First of all, I completely disagree with the range claim above. I have tested this device and yes, the manufacturers claims are bit high but I can easily get over 700 feet range for this alarm. No matter where I place the receiver, whether it is in front or behind some natural object, always seems to work fine.

The receiver unit has had few problems in the 3 years since purchase; lastability is always a good thing in my book so it scores points there. I do feel however that the battery life could be improved; I have spent quite a bit of time replacing them over the years. That could be a criticism of the batteries and not the security product however.

Basically, at the end of the day I actually really like this wireless home security alarm system and I had to defend it a little after the boys got their teeth into it. Yes, i’m sure there are better products out there but at least give it a try and see if it will solve your domestic security issues. For my Chamberlain RWA-300R alarm review I would like to give it a 10 out of 10! To the Cool Home Security team, consider yourself officially told off!

Related posts:
