It not only protects your property, possessions and family, it also raises the market value of your home. Another plus point is that insurance companies offer better policies for homes with burglar systems. Alarm systems can range from simple devices with traditional features to state of the art security systems reminiscent of spy movies. But as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. And it’s no different for alarm systems.

The Basics of Burglar Alarm Systems

There are fundamentally two kinds of alarm systems. One is a local alarm which will simply ring a bell or make a noise to alert you to an event. But if no one is home, then the alarm is useless.

The second kind is a home security alarm system that is connected to an off-site monitoring centre that is manned year-round 24 hours a day. So in case of a break-in, the security system will call the centre so that appropriate action can be taken. This is the better choice for obvious reasons. You will not have to worry about the security of your home again. The monitoring centre will charge a monthly fee, but it is a small price to pay for peace of mind when you are away.

Depending on the level of security you are looking for, the system can monitor either just the perimeter, or individual windows, doors, and other access points. Motion detectors offer a high level of security for the interior of your home.

The basic use of a burglar alarm system is to detect a robbery. But burglar systems today come with many additional features like fire alarms, carbon monoxide detection, and flood warning. Although it can fit into your budget, you will still be spending quite a bit when buying an alarm system. So it is important that you get the right system for your needs.

Look at the sales track record of a security company; the higher the percentage of sales, the greater the probability that they have satisfied customers who recommend them. Millions of people can’t be wrong.

Once you have decided on the kind of system you want, you can call the security companies you are considering and ask them to send a representative over to assess your property and give you a quotation. This is usually a free service. Do not hesitate to ask the security company as well as the executive who comes home for credentials or security training certification. Your home is your castle and you have a right to ask for the best of protection from the best in the field.

Also ensure that the company you finally settle on is a reputable one. It is not uncommon for thieves to set up fake security companies so they then have access to all your pass codes. Check the company with the Better Business Bureau and online consumer forums.

Related posts:

But there are instances when the alarm systems fail, leaving you with a bitter taste in your mouth. But don’t let that put you off alarm systems forever. Let’s take a look at the reasons things go wrong with them.

Reasons for Burglar Alarm System Failure

The number one reason is human error. Believe it or not, in most cases where the alarm fails to go off, it wasn’t turned on in the first place. Many people forget that they need to turn the alarm on for it to do its job, that an alarm will not turn itself on automatically. The way to avoid this is to make it someone’s responsibility to ensure that the alarm is on when it needs to be.

The next reason is inefficient installation. Some alarms are quite simple to install or maybe just decided to install it yourself so you didn’t have to pay extra. Maybe you didn’t read the manual or perhaps you missed a vital step in the installation process which prevented the alarm from working as it should have. Also, in trying to cut down costs, you may have gone for a low-quality burglar alarm system.

Another issue that arises from not reading the manual is ignorance of system maintenance. For example, maybe a particular kind of alarm needs a battery change every two years. Don’t skip maintenance check-ups from the security company. The official product manual is an invaluable tool that will help you understand the full potential of your system.

One of the most common reasons a burglar system does not work is because the security plan is badly mapped out. For example, not accounting for the first floor window in your initial survey of your home. Consulting a security expert on this one is your best bet. Security professionals will be able to tell you the areas of your home which are susceptible to a break-in. Their training, experience and knowledge of the security tools available with their company or in the market in general will enable them to suggest the best possible security plan for your home. Most security companies will send over a consultant to do a free analysis and give you a quotation. Skipping this step can lead to some bad decisions in finally choosing your alarm system.

And finally, let’s not rule out simple malfunction. At the end of the day, an alarm system is just a fancy machine which can simply stop working for no feasible reason.

However, it mostly boils down to insufficient research. If you start understanding how burglar alarms work, doing an in-depth study into the different options available to you, getting an expert to look at your own home security set-up and taking his advice, and shelling out a little extra to have a trained professional set up the system for you, then there is no reason whatsoever that your system will not do its job and protect your family from danger.

Related posts:

<fb:like href='http://coolhomesecurity.com/the-mace-80355-wireless-home-security-alarm-system' layout='default' show_faces='false' width='400' action='like' colorscheme='light' send='false' />

Welcome one and welcome all to another fantastic review of a random wireless home security alarm system. Today we are going to be talking about the latest from Mace, the 80355. We have been busy at work getting the ins and outs of this wireless alarm for 3 months now and we have enough feedback from our findings to finally post the Mace 80355 alarm review, we hope you enjoy!

First things first, we received a lot of emails from our previous review of the chamberlain security system, apparently we had angered a few drones that had purchased the product. Listen up drones; different people have different opinions, if you don’t like ours then simply don’t read our site. If you do feel the need to share your opinion then please use the comment system instead of emailing us with death threats! Yes, that’s right; we actually got a death threat. Could you have ever thought that a little review of an alarm security system would cause so much controversy?

The long and short of what we are trying to say is that we will continue to give our honest opinion of whatever house alarm comes our way, if you don’t like that tough!

Now that’s taken care of, let’s get tucked into the meat of this review. The Mace 80355 wireless home security alarm system is quite a nifty piece of alarm hardware even if we do say so ourselves.

This wireless system can of course detect motion, for example if your window was to open when the device is set, the siren will go off an you will get a call to your mobile (or number of your choice) telephone. To the new people here, this is obviously a fantastic feature that all security products should have. It’s a great way for people to react quickly to any potential problem or breaking that they are having. It basically means that if there is a break in, you will be the first to know about it.

During the Mace 80355 alarm review we noticed that the range of the sensor is around the 190 to 200 feet mark, the manufacturer claims that it can manage over 250 feet but not when we were testing it. That’s another point to remember for anyone out their considering buying a wireless home security system alarm, take the manufacturers sales pitch with a rather large grain of salt.

We had no trouble with the remote hardware found on this product; the remote control functioned well and responded to any of our requests. We did however feel it was a tad on the light side, many of you will think that’s a good thing however it actually felt as though the remote could break easy if it were to be dropped against any hard surface.

With the money you spend on this product, you will in turn receive a control unit with AC adaptor and of course a durable motion detecting sensor. The remote as mentioned, some batteries and a nice instructional DVD.

Nothing fancy, but sometimes it can be refreshing to see a company simply stick to the basics and not charge their consumers for unneeded or unwanted additional extras such as shoddy security cameras that will work for a month then break (not naming any names … yet).

Mace claims that no one should spend over the odds for a security alarm when there are products like the 80355 system available. We tend to agree, this alarm defiantly stands up against the big boys out there. Yes it is missing some functionality, but if you just need a basic alarm for your house then this should keep you happy.

We must also point out that although Mace are confident with this claim, we at Cool Home Security would also like to point out that there are many more wireless security systems out there that can do a better job than the 80355 yet come at an even more affordable price.

The ideal consumer for this product would probably be a mid 30s guy who is into all his favourite gadgets and gets a little paranoid that there will be a burglar attempt to break into his apartment. He needs a simple easy to install burglar alarm system, that’s what the 80355 is. Simple and reliable.

You don’t need to be a technical whizz to install this device, even if it didn’t come with the instructional DVD we feel that anyone could have figured it out in a matter of minutes.

Like we said earlier there are other devices out there that are more advanced than this one, however if you just need a system that is “set & forget” then this could be a good choice for you.

Also we would also like to see what our readers thoughts are on any of the alarm products we have mentioned. Do you agree or disagree with our reviews? Even if there is a device that has not been mentioned we always encourage a healthy debate and wish that we can get a really good community going here at Cool Home Security.

You can get in touch with us using the comment section at the bottom of each review, word of warning though, apparently these comments are visible to the public so don’t send us anything that you wish to be kept private, such as death threats etc!

Well that wraps up yet another walk down the old wireless home security alarm system lane, we hope to see you a gain for our next review. The Mace 80355 alarm review gets a respectable 6 out of 10. Remember to keep safe and make sure you keep those burglars and thieves as far away from your house as possible, until next time goodbye!

Related posts:
