And why not? They are excellent systems, have few problems, are user-friendly, and the prices have dropped dramatically in the last few years. But still, a lot of people end up not being very happy with their wireless alarm systems. This is because most consumers make rookie mistakes when buying a home security system in the rush to keep up with the Jones’.

Buying Wireless Alarm Systems

DO…

…your research. One of the main reasons that buyers end up hating their security systems and regretting the purchase is because they don’t do their homework when they need to. Most people tend to just skim a few articles on the Internet and then proceed to buy a wireless system based on that little knowledge. In time, when they use the system and learn more about it, they realize that it’s not what they wanted in the first place and they should have gone in for this brand or that model.

Don’t make the same mistake. Take your time and do thorough research by searching the web, talking to other wireless system owners, and reading up on any literature that you can lay your hands on.

…get as many free quotations as possible: Yes, indeed, security companies will say anything to sell you their products. So take what they say with a pinch of salt. But they are the experts on the home security tools and technology that are available for your needs. Your favorite neighbor may strongly recommend a system or a brand but it may not be the best option for you. Wireless alarm systems are a little difficult to understand so don’t hesitate to call a security company and ask them to send someone over to answer your questions

DON’T…

…be stingy. A good wireless alarm system will not cost the earth, but it is nevertheless a bit expensive. However, since there is a huge demand for wireless home security systems, there are now many security companies out there, which means you will find very competitive prices. But sometimes, paying less means getting less. You may compromise on quality and useful features to save a few pennies, but end up losing much more in the long run when the system doesn’t do its job.

…attempt installation yourself if you aren’t sure how. A wireless system is actually quite easy to install. But if you are not the do-it-yourself type, pay a little extra to have a technician come home and set things up for you. Clumsy installation could lead to issues like inaccurate readings and inefficient positioning of the devices that will protect your home. For example, a camera positioned outside the range of the wireless system will give you interrupted feedback or simply not run the features it’s configured for.

A wireless alarm system is an investment in the safety of your family, home, and possessions. Make sure to keep in mind the above points when looking for your wireless security system.

Related posts:

There are many types of home security systems – wireless home security systems, wired home security systems, alarm systems, etc. Among these wireless systems are becoming increasingly popular as they are easy to use and aesthetically better than others.

What are Wireless Home Security Systems?

Wireless security systems are set of few security tools that are powered by battery and provide protection through different components that form the total wireless kit. They use wireless signals like infrared waves, radio waves or line carriers to communicate between its various components. Before investing in wireless security systems, it is better to understand their advantages and disadvantages. Also, an overview of their components will help you in choosing the right parts.

Advantages of Wireless Security Systems

1) These systems are easy to install. Some versions only need basic plug-ins to be installed properly. Wireless sensors are put at their right places and the security program is activated. These steps ensure the basic security through wireless devices. Many of them come in do-it-yourself packs and this eliminates the expenditure of calling in a professional to do the job.

2) These devices do not need wires and hence, they do not interfere with the other electrical wirings and plumbing in the house. Imagine the cost of repairing a plumbing line if it is accidently damaged during installing any other security system.

3) These systems are extremely portable and can be easily taken along, in case the house or apartment needs to be changed.

4) One of the most prominent reasons behind the popularity of wireless systems is that they do not spoil any home decor and can be easily hidden away in less visible places.

Disadvantages of Wireless Security Systems

1) The biggest disadvantage of wireless systems is that many times their signals might get interrupted. Any big obstacle in the path of these signals can make these devices useless. They also accept interference by other wireless signals and can trigger off many false alarms. Also, this type of interference reduces the overall effectiveness of these systems.

2) Another big deterrent that prevents people from buying wireless home security systems is their cost. They are generally the most expensive way of guarding ones house especially with the systems that come with security monitoring.

Components of Wireless Systems

Doing the right kind of research will help you in spending your money on the right components as the market is flooded with a large variety of the wireless devices. Wireless security cameras, wireless motion detectors and wireless alarms are key parts of any full proof security system. In addition you will need the keypad, a wireless route, a control panel and a computer or VCR to record video footage.

Although these security systems are expensive, many consider them economical as they can save the cost of installation and wiring. If properly used, they can provide the best security to your home.

Related posts:

<fb:like href='http://coolhomesecurity.com/intermatic-sp440b-wireless-home-security-alarm-system-review' layout='default' show_faces='false' width='400' action='like' colorscheme='light' send='false' />

Relax, grab yourself a cup of coffee and sit tight as Cool Home Security unleash yet another amazingly fantastic wireless home security alarm system review for your thirsty self’s. That’s right, its time to talk wireless alarms yet again and we just know you can’t get enough of it. Today we will be doing the Intermatic SP440B alarm review. Now what can this little anti-theft device offer you in your time of need? Read on young alarm padawan for we shall tell all.

Lets be honest here, if this alarm was a vegetable it would be a potato. Nothing overly amazing about it but what it does it does well. It certainly able to provide safety for those who purchase it and that at the end of the day is what it is all about yes?

This security alarm system is also rather convenient in that it can be placed pretty much anywhere in your house. We actually set the alarm up in four different locations in our warehouse and it was a breeze to set up.

The first location we tried was next to the main entrance door. Before we did so we had to tackle the good old user manual as we need to rate these alarms in ease of setup as well as how functional they are.

You will be glad to hear (if you are non techy) that the set up is really straightforward, Intermatic have really done a great job in terms of creating a user friendly manual that can be read and more importantly understood by all walks of life.

We imagine there would be nothing worse than buying a brand spanking new wireless home security alarm system, taking it home, unpacking it and then finding out that the set up instructions may as well have been written in Chinese.

As we stated earlier, this is not the case. Not only are the alarms instructions straightforward but the illustrations found in the manual are actually top notch, really clear and precise. Basically if you by the Intermatic SP440B and have trouble setting it up then you really don’t have much chance with life in general, you may as well just shoot your self in the head and be done with it (please don’t do that its not worth it!).

The siren on the Intermatic weighs in at a decent 90 decibels. Yes it’s not the most powerful siren we have heard at our Cool Home Security warehouse but this audio level is more than enough for any small home owner and should give enough noise to alert the next door neighbour too.

Once set up, it is a case of your usual enter a code to set the alarm and enter a code to deactivate the alarm (see what we mean with potato?). The alarm suns on batteries, you will need 3 1.5 volt batteries and as always we recommend just paying a little extra for rechargeable batteries to save you some money in the long run.

I guess this is as good a time as any to remind people who have battery powered home security alarms. Always test and make sure your alarm is working every fortnight (you could even make that every week to be safe) because the last thing you want to happen is to wake up one morning only to find that a burglar or thief has ransacked your home taking everything with them and you realising that you slept through it all because your wireless alarm system ran out of batteries!

That would be enough to drive any self respecting person over the edge so the moral of the story is check your batteries children and check them often.

Anyway let’s get back to the Intermatic SP440B Alarm Review. The manufacturer states that it’s best to put the Intermatic onto your window for maximum effect. Once the connection breaks (whether the window opens or closes) the 90 decibel alarm siren shall sound.

It really is as simple and as straightforward as that. There really is no getting round the fact that the simplicity of this model is actually on of the alarms more endearing aspects.

Though we suspect that this will be completely down to the individual. If you are the sort of person who wants to buy an alarm, set it up and then forget about it, the Intermatic SP440B Wireless Window Alarm will be perfect for you.

If however you are the sort of sadistic human being like us who enjoys spending literally hours of time setting up an alarm and tinkering with hundreds of different parameters before actually setting the alarm to live, then we would advise spending your money elsewhere.

Yes you will probably have to buy something more expensive but you will be happy at the end of the day.

To summarise the Intermatic SP440B Wireless Window Alarm is a good little alarm. It does exactly what it sets out to do. The manufacturer knows who they are targeting with this device and they have done so with laser targeted execution.

There are other better Intermatics out on the market, that is a no brainer but none come at this price point. If money is an issue then certainly take a look at this alarm.

More good points, attention must be brought to the user manual. We hope other alarm manufacturers take note of the steps Intermatic made in the creation of this as it was absolutely perfect. No one at the office had any issues understanding the instructions, a first here at Cool Home Security.

The negatives of this model are that it is an extremely basic alarm. If you want more bang for you buck you should probably go elsewhere. Also if you live in a large house or are in need of an alarm at a shop or warehouse we would advise you to take a look at the other bigger names out there.

Overall we enjoyed testing the Intermatic. Sure, it won’t win any awards for being the best wireless home security alarm system in the world anytime soon but for what it does it does with an air of efficiency and elegance. The Intermatic SP440B Alarm Review gets a nice 6 out of 10.

Related posts:
