Mace 80355 Alarm Review

Welcome one and welcome all to another fantastic review of a random wireless home security alarm system.  Today we are going to be talking about the latest from Mace, the 80355.  We have been busy at work getting the ins and outs of this wireless alarm for 3 months now and we have enough feedback from our findings to finally post the Mace 80355 alarm review, we hope you enjoy!

First things first, we received a lot of emails from our previous review of the chamberlain security system, apparently we had angered a few drones that had purchased the product.  Listen up drones; different people have different opinions, if you don’t like ours then simply don’t read our site.  If you do feel the need to share your opinion then please use the comment system instead of emailing us with death threats!  Yes, that’s right; we actually got a death threat.  Could you have ever thought that a little review of an alarm security system would cause so much controversy?

The long and short of what we are trying to say is that we will continue to give our honest opinion of whatever house alarm comes our way, if you don’t like that tough!

Now that’s taken care of, let’s get tucked into the meat of this review.  The Mace 80355 wireless home security alarm system is quite a nifty piece of alarm hardware even if we do say so ourselves.

This wireless system can of course detect motion, for example if your window was to open when the device is set, the siren will go off an you will get a call to your mobile (or number of your choice) telephone.  To the new people here, this is obviously a fantastic feature that all security products should have.  It’s a great way for people to react quickly to any potential problem or breaking that they are having.  It basically means that if there is a break in, you will be the first to know about it.

Mace Wireless Home Security Alarm SystemDuring the Mace 80355 alarm review we noticed that the range of the sensor is around the 190 to 200 feet mark, the manufacturer claims that it can manage over 250 feet but not when we were testing it.  That’s another point to remember for anyone out their considering buying a wireless home security system alarm, take the manufacturers sales pitch with a rather large grain of salt.

We had no trouble with the remote hardware found on this product; the remote control functioned well and responded to any of our requests.  We did however feel it was a tad on the light side, many of you will think that’s a good thing however it actually felt as though the remote could break easy if it were to be dropped against any hard surface.

With the money you spend on this product, you will in turn receive a control unit with AC adaptor and of course a durable motion detecting sensor.  The remote as mentioned, some batteries and a nice instructional DVD.

Nothing fancy, but sometimes it can be refreshing to see a company simply stick to the basics and not charge their consumers for unneeded or unwanted additional extras such as shoddy security cameras that will work for a month then break (not naming any names … yet).

Mace claims that no one should spend over the odds for a security alarm when there are products like the 80355 system available.  We tend to agree, this alarm defiantly stands up against the big boys out there.  Yes it is missing some functionality, but if you just need a basic alarm for your house then this should keep you happy.

We must also point out that although Mace are confident with this claim, we at Cool Home Security would also like to point out that there are many more wireless security systems out there that can do a better job than the 80355 yet come at an even more affordable price.

The ideal consumer for this product would probably be a mid 30s guy who is into all his favourite gadgets and gets a little paranoid that there will be a burglar attempt to break into his apartment.  He needs a simple easy to install burglar alarm system, that’s what the 80355 is.  Simple and reliable.

You don’t need to be a technical whizz to install this device, even if it didn’t come with the instructional DVD we feel that anyone could have figured it out in a matter of minutes.

Like we said earlier there are other devices out there that are more advanced than this one, however if you just need a system that is “set & forget” then this could be a good choice for you.

Also we would also like to see what our readers thoughts are on any of the alarm products we have mentioned.  Do you agree or disagree with our reviews?  Even if there is a device that has not been mentioned we always encourage a healthy debate and wish that we can get a really good community going here at Cool Home Security.

You can get in touch with us using the comment section at the bottom of each review, word of warning though, apparently these comments are visible to the public so don’t send us anything that you wish to be kept private, such as death threats etc!

Well that wraps up yet another walk down the old wireless home security alarm system lane, we hope to see you a gain for our next review.  The Mace 80355 alarm review gets a respectable 6 out of 10.  Remember to keep safe and make sure you keep those burglars and thieves as far away from your house as possible, until next time goodbye!

I purchased the kit with the motion sensor, and door/ window sensor. It didn’t come with a set up DVD (you’ll notice in online stores sometimes they mention it is included, sometimes they don’t mention a DVD it at all). It did come with printed instructions, which unfortunately I lost. I’ve searched the web, but can’t find them on line anywhere. The system is not intuitive, so you’ll absolutely need intructions. So, put those instructions in a safe place – if you ever need to re-program; change a phone number – you’ll have them.

Meanwhile…. would someone be so kind as to post the programming instructions, or email them to me? I’d be grateful!!!

I have 2 of these and bought two more for relatives. It works great. I had a monitored system with a $25/month bill. When I did get a call, I ended up going and checking out the problem, as the local police charge. So this is the same without the $25/month. Good points: easy to install, you can order extra sensors. Programing was easy, but need manual. (link below) – works fine.
Bad points: only a 20 second max delay, could use a little more, no reminder sound when you enter until alarm sounds, so if you forget that the alarm is set, you get blasted. Wish the screen was a little brighter so you could read data easier. Pushing buttons causes alarm to chirp at its mega sound, so it blasts you out when trying to set or disarm at keypad. I use fob so I don’t have to be close to it.
    Would recommend.

Just found your website today, seems to be one of the best I have come accross, thanks !

My question is regarding the Mace 80355, did you do your “duribility test” on this unit and if so how did it come out. You really got me to thinking when you said if someone breaks in they will either talke off and run or try and smash your base unit

Are there any precautions when setting up a base unit that would help the unit last longer under an attack?

    Regards, David Bennett

    Hi David

Unfortunatly there is not much you can do to protect the base unit, one thing that is quite effective however is to make sure you place the unit in an area out of any intruders view.

If they cant see it, they probably wont hunt for it while its going off, they will instead make a sharp exit from your property which results in your protected home and still functioning base unit ;)

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers
