Using Wireless Home Security Systems

Wireless home security systems are the easiest to install and use. They eliminate the need of tediously putting in wires for the security system and generally use basic plug-in system. Most Do-It-Yourself (DIY) kits include wireless devices. Here is a guide on using the various components of wireless security systems.

Planning and Test-Runs

It is essential to make a well detailed plan before using any wireless security tools. Figure out where you which doors and windows need to be covered. Do you want to cover staircase as well? Garden areas and driveways might also need protection. How many rooms will be covered? Choose the right place to install motion sensors and alarms. Such place should not be visible but at the same time should not muffle the sound from an alarm system.

Next decide on the place for installing the control panel. Another important step will be to check the wireless home security system before installation. You can simply plug-in the components and do test runs to find any faulty component that needs replacement.

Wireless Home Security Systems – Using Different Components

First install the control panel. It should ideally be near any entry or exit door but should not be easily visible or reachable. You can hide it in the cupboard as well but you will need an electric socket. It is better to avoid sockets with switches can turn off the system easily. Some wireless panels also come with remote controls that can turn them on or off.

You might be required to connect one wire of the control panel to a phone line if you are using landlines for monitoring systems. Wireless cellular devices will eliminate this step as well. Make sure that your control panel has back-up with batteries that can be used in case of a power breakdown.

Next install the alarm systems. Most of these will be installed in electric outlets. Use a place that is not visible but can echo the sound of the alarm easily. You can also choose to place an alarm outside your home so that neighbours can be alerted.

Program the alarm system and control panel in the next step. Follow the instructions manual carefully to choose the security codes. In the end, install the sensors on the selected locations. Make sure that you place them rightly for the best results. You might like to conduct a test run at this point.

If you are using wireless cameras, you will have to install the cameras. In case electric sockets are not available for cameras, use cameras with batteries in them. You will then need a router that can stream videos through the internet to your computer. Set up the router and computer to match their programming.

If you are not sure of the process at any time, you can call the customer care centres from where you purchased these devices. Call a professional from the security agency if you are very new to these systems.
